Season and region flow from the theme
An aurora trip wants Fairbanks in October, not Anchorage in July. A fishing trip wants the Kenai in late June for red salmon, Bristol Bay in early July for king. Getting the theme and the month right is worth more than any individual lodge pick.

Northern Lights
Fairbanks is the base. Chena Hot Springs for the bath-under-aurora night. Cleary Summit for viewing cabins. Book at least 3 nights for a fair chance of clear skies.
Katmai · Lake Clark · July peak
Bear Viewing
Brooks Falls in Katmai for the classic photograph. Lake Clark for quieter viewing. Kodiak for the biggest bears. All fly-in, all weather-dependent.
Kenai · Bristol Bay · June to Sept
Salmon and Halibut
Kenai River for sockeye and king. Kasilof for quieter water. Homer for halibut. Bristol Bay fly-ins for the trophy fish. Book lodges 12 to 18 months ahead.
Seward · Whittier · Anchorage
Cruise Extensions
Two nights before or after the ship changes the trip. Seward or Whittier port-side; Anchorage for the flight; Talkeetna for the Denali add-on the cruise line will not sell you.
