Seward hotels
Seward is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park and one of two disembarkation ports (with Whittier) for northbound one-way Alaska cruises. Two hours 30 minutes south of Anchorage on the Seward Highway, small-boat harbour tucked under the Chugach mountains, and Resurrection Bay running out to Aialik Glacier. Book by proximity to the small-boat harbour if you plan to take a glacier day cruise.
Three Seward picks
Seward Windsong Lodge. Riverside cabins on the Resurrection River 4 miles out of town, Exit Glacier visible from the property. Best pick if you have a rental car and want quiet. Rate band: $290 to $460.
Harbor 360 Hotel. On the small-boat harbour boardwalk, 30 seconds walk to Kenai Fjords Tours dock. Best pick if you are day-cruising to the glaciers. Rate band: $260 to $410.
Hotel Seward. Downtown 1905 building on 5th Avenue, walkable to the Alaska SeaLife Center. Small rooms, historic character, warm staff. Rate band: $180 to $290.
Practical planning notes
- Cruise disembarkation days at Seward are typically Wednesday and Saturday from mid-May to mid-September; rooms sell out fastest for the night before your northbound Land-plus-Sea package departs.
- Alaska Railroad runs Anchorage-Seward once a day May through September; the scenic coach beats driving south for anyone who wants photos rather than steering wheel.
- The July 4 Mount Marathon race triples the town’s population and blocks out every hotel 12 months in advance; avoid unless you are running it.
