Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge, Copper Center

Copper River Princess Wilderness Lodge is the most practical full-service base for Wrangell-St Elias, the largest national park in the United States and one of the least visited. It sits on a bluff above the Copper River with long views toward the Wrangell Mountains.

Where it is

Near Copper Center, at the junction of the Richardson and Edgerton Highways, roughly 200 miles east of Anchorage. It is a long drive from anywhere, which is exactly why it exists.

Who it suits

Cruise passengers on Princess land tours, and independent travellers heading into Wrangell-St Elias toward McCarthy and Kennecott. Much of its search volume comes from cruise-tour guests looking up their assigned lodge.

When to go

Open for the summer season only, roughly mid-May to mid-September, in line with the Alaska cruise and land-tour calendar.
