Borealis Basecamp, Fairbanks

Borealis Basecamp is the property that made Alaska’s glass-roof aurora stay a category of its own. It sits on a ridge north of Fairbanks, away from town light, in insulated domes with a large transparent roof panel angled at the northern sky.

Where it is

Roughly 25 miles north of Fairbanks on a private site off the Elliott Highway, deliberately positioned away from the city’s light dome. Access is by resort transfer rather than casual self-drive.

Who it suits

Aurora travellers who want to watch from indoors rather than stand outside at minus thirty. It is the single most-searched aurora property in the state, so book far ahead for the peak months.

When to go

Aurora season runs roughly late August to mid-April, with the darkest, most reliable window from September to March. Summer stays exist but the sky never gets dark enough for aurora.
