- The Denali green shuttle to Toklat is 6 hours round-trip and a hard sit for under-8s; the Savage River shuttle at 2 hours is a better first bite.
- Alaska Railroad GoldStar service has an upper-deck dome and a downstairs dining car with actual tables, worth the upgrade with children on the Anchorage to Denali leg.
- Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward, Anchorage Museum, and the Fountainhead Antique Auto Museum in Fairbanks are the three best rainy-day plays; buy tickets same-morning.
